Shoeboxes and giftwrap: give to Lauren Black as soon as you have them.

Toys: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump
ropes, small Etch A Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries) slinky, fast food toys, etc.

Hygiene Items: toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag) comb, washcloth, hair
accessories, nail care accessories, etc.

FREE Movie Tickets

UltraStar is offering free admission to their Kidtoons programs for our MOPS group! Kidtoons are G-rated films that play every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 am. The same movie plays for an entire month and the program is always family friendly and affordable: Admission is only $2.50 per person (guests 2 and under are Free) but for our MOPS group, they are FREE.

Most Kidtoons features run between 60-75 minutes so they are the perfect opportunity for parents to introduce the movie environment to little ones who may not have the attention-span or ability to sit still for a normal 90-120 minute feature presentation. The Kidtoons program features characters and stories that preschool to school-age children are familiar with like Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie, and Thomas the Tank Engine. After each show children receive a free give-away item such as stickers, temporary tattoos or a coloring sheet.

Fry's Grocery Cards

Pay $10 for a Fry's Gift Card and receive a card loaded with $10. You can then preload to use at Fry's and Fry's Gas. A percentage of what you load on your card will go into your name in an account at Sun Valley. You can use this money to pay for your MOPS dues, camp, Bible study, supplies, etc.

Stop by the Sun Valley office or contact a steering team member.

Fry's cards can be used at their gas stations. One family uses their monthly allotment for gas and puts it on a Fry's card so they always have gas money. You can also purchase gift cards using your Fry's card. These will help you build your account balance up faster.

MOPS Registration

RETURNING MOPS MOMS, now is the time to register in order to secure your spot in MOPPETS and avoid having your kiddos placed on a wait list. After August 16 open registration will begin and all moms in the community will be able to register and sign up for child care.

For those of you that completed the end of the year evaluation, the $6 off coupon deadline has been extended until August 1st. If you haven't already registered, do so before the deadline and save yourself $6 off your semester dues.

Registration fees include the annual MOPS International fee of $23.95 and first semester dues in the amount of $56, along with the completed registration packet for a total of $79.95. If you pre-paid the MOPS International fee of $23.95, you must still complete the registration packet and pay $56 in order to be completely registered in our MOPS and MOPPETS program.

Registration packets and dues can be turned in through any of the following options:
1. Turn in to the church office during normal business hours and place in the MOPS box
2. Give to any current Steering Team member
3. Drop off at the church before or after Tuesday's Steering Team meetings (we meet 9:00-11:15am)
4. Mail to: Sun Valley Community Church

MOPS is currently working on putting together our leadership team for the 2011-2012 MOPS year. Positions we are looking to fill are: Creative Activities, Prayer & Service, Finance/Admin., Publicity, MOPPETS, PM Coordinator, Table Leaders and Mentor Moms.

Easter Egg Hunt

Sun Valley Community Church will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 23rd at 9am for toddlers-4th grade children. This is a free event. Bring your kiddos, family and friends out for some Easter fun! Oh, and don't forget to bring a basket to collect all the eggs and a camera to capture those beautiful memories.

If you would like to help with the success of the event, donations of plastic pre-filled eggs are appreciated. Moms can donate a dozen or more eggs filled with small toys, stickers, tattoos, silly bands, bouncing balls, hard candy, etc. However, no chocolate please. Donated eggs (bags) should be labeled with the appropriate age group (i.e. toddlers, school age etc.), as there will be two egg hunts, one for smaller kiddos and another for older ones. Please tape the eggs shut if you find they easily pop open. Eggs can be turned in at our MOPS meeting on Tuesday, April 5th or at SVCC on 4/9 & 4/10.

Antiquities Update

Our fundraiser is still underway. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year! MOPS profits help pay for child care expenses so we can keep dues stable. Not to mention the pictures are absolutely adorable!! Please continue selling those coupons. Turn in sold coupons to Angela Atkinson at our next MOPS meeting so appointments can be scheduled. Last day to turn in will be April 12th.

Are you interested in an opportunity to sell coupons in order to earn a free portrait package of your kiddos? MOPS will have an Antiquites booth at Haley Elementary during their Spring Carnival on Friday, April 8th from 5:30-8:30pm. If you are interested in volunteering at the booth and earning credit for ticket sells, please contact Angela Atkinson by Sunday 4/3 to schedule a time. You only need to sell 10 or more $10 coupons in order to earn a free package.

Pictures will be taken the weekend of April 16th.

Unstoppable. Very few things in life can be described as unstoppable. Yet it perfectly describes God, His Word, and His plan. The Bible says that God reigns over the whole universe, His Word never returns void and that His plans will be established. God is Unstoppable.

The Bible says the church is unstoppable. And that God, in His perfect wisdom, has commissioned people like you and me to take His perfect word to a lost, confused and misdirected world to give them hope, help and healing. The church is unstoppable.

The word "unstoppable" also describes the spirit of the people of Sun Valley. From the very beginning, we have done whatever was necessary for the good news of God's love to reach every neighborhood, every home and every heart in the East Valley and beyond. Every generation of Sun Valley has moved forward with the belief that our mission was not complete and that God's purpose for us was not yet fulfilled. Now it is our turn.

Our families are talking, planning and praying about how we will invest financially to this mission. We will give generously and sacrificially to ensure that we fulfill our role in what God is doing at Sun Valley and in the East Valley. I know that the other pastors, directors, staff and lay leaders at Sun Valley are ready to make great sacrifices to accomplish the vision as well.

Our prayer and request is that you would join us in this journey. The resources here will give a picture of what we believe to be the next chapter in the Sun Valley vision. Stack hands with us in the mission that our unstoppable God has for us.

RE|ENGAGE begins January 3, 2011. This is a brand new ministry of Sun Valley Community Church specifically designed for marriages.

Would you rate your marriage as a 2 or a 10? Maybe even a 0? You are not alone. Whether your marriage needs to be REIGNITED, or is in need of a complete RESURRECTION, RE|ENGAGE is a safe place for couples to RECONNECT.

RE|ENGAGE offers hope to marriages by helping couples move toward oneness through stories of grace, teaching and small groups. Join us for this 24 week experience which includes a time of teaching, a testimony by a couple who has experienced victory in the midst of hard times, and small group time which follows a specified curriculum.

Meets every Monday night from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm in Auditorium B. It is not necessary to let us know you are coming beforehand, so please do not hesitate to join us as you move towards oneness with your spouse.

Donations needed please! It is that time of year again! We are looking for donations for gifts for our Moppets teachers! Last year the teachers were overwhelmed by your generosity! This year we currently have 26 teachers (one male). Please don't feel like you need to spend a lot of money. The Target dollar section is a great place to pick these items up as is the Dollar store. I know that is where I got a lot of stuff last year. We will be collecting items at the meetings and need to be in by the December 7th meeting.

It's that time of the summer again and yes, you guessed it, it's time to register for our new 2010-11 MOPS year at Sun Valley Community Church! Packets were sent by email to current moms.

Forms will need to be turned in or mailed to the church. We must receive the required forms and payment before we can officially register you. You will not have a spot in MOPPETS until we have received your payment.

We will be accepting forms and money through August 16th, and after that will be open registration with our open house weekends at church occurring toward the middle/end of August. A MOMSnext group is an open, accepting place for all mothers of school-age kids to come, just as they are, to experience authentic community, personal growth, practical help and spiritual hope. MOMSnext will encourage, equip and develop moms in the next phase of mothering.

Splash Pad Playdate at Espee Park

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Ingredients:
1 bar Ivory soap, grated (you can use any soap, different soaps give different textures)
1/2 cup washing soda (Arm and Hammer, but not baking soda)
1/2 cup Borax
2 gallon bucket
1 quart hot water
Hot water to make 2 gallons

Directions:
Mix grated soap in a saucepan with 3 pints of water and heat on low until dissolved. Stir in Washing Soda and Borax. Stir until thickened and remove from heat. Add 1 quart hot water to 2 gallon bucket. Add soap mixture and mix well. Fill bucket with hot water and mix well. Set aside for 24 hours or until mixture thickens. The longer it sets in the bucket the smoother it gets if you use the Ivory. Stir occasionally. Store in milk jugs or empty laundry soap containers. Give it a good shake then pour.

Use 1/2 cup of mixture per load. Use the same amount in your front load washers as well. It will be chunky. I actually use a little more than 1/2 cup when I wash, but it is cheap to make so not a big deal.

Fire Station Tours

At our May 4th meeting a firefighter is scheduled to come speak to our group about fire safety. Amy has planned two opportunities for us to be able to take our children to a fire station and get a tour. It should be a very fun time for the children, not to mention the moms. Amy explained that the firefighter will put on their full gear, including the mask, so the children understand that if they were trapped in a fire to not be scared of the big firefighter coming to rescue them.

Sign ups are required, as they have a limit to the number of children who can attend at one time. Please sign up at our next meeting for one of the tours on either Wednesday, May 5th or Thursday, May 6th. Remember to bring your camera and get a cute photo of your (possibly) future little firefighters!

Spring service project: Kiernan's Kindness

Our spring service project is helping make bags for Kiernan's Kindness. Julie came to speak to our group about her son's experience in the NICU. Her heartfelt desire is to make bags to bring comfort to other families with a child in the NICU. Rebecca is heading up our project and hoping that each of our tables can provide items from the list below.

Things needed to fill the bags: hand/foot molds or frames for the prints, onsies, outfits, gowns, babyshirts, blankets – handmade are gladly welcomed, hats, booties, mittens – we would love hand made ones, puzzle books, pens, journals, disposable cameras, small photo album books, birth record pillows, small picture frames, tissues, hand sanitizer, travel packs of wipes, ravel size shampoos, deodorants, body wash, lotions, chap sticks or lip balms, gift cards – especially ones that can be used in cafeterias, burp clothes, receiving blankets, small stuffed animals, regular baby blankets – we would love handmade ones, email addresses and short summary of a personal experience, inspirational books – keeping in mind not all are followers, cash donations are also welcomed so we may buy more bags, coloring books and crayons – home printed welcomed, sticker books, medium stuffed animals for the older children in PICU’s, fabric and ribbons so that we may hand make items, and any baby boutiques that want to donate welcomed.

Letter craft at our April 20th meeting!

On April 20th we will be having an open mic and sharing our tips for being green. During the meeting we will be working on our letter craft. Each mom placed an order for two letters. If, by some chance, you did not get your order in, you can go to Michael's and get the same letters for about $2.50 each. They are made of wood and are beveled.

All paint and paint brushes will be provided; however, if you wish to have a specific color, please bring your paint with you. The picture was provided by Craft Queen Tara, which shows extra embellishments she added after the paint dried. If you are interested in having your letter look like the sample letter, look for sparkly paint from the craft store.

Spring Tea on April 6th

The Spring Tea is taking a Southern theme. This is a time of tea and testimony. We will be hearing some wonderful testimonies. If you are interested in sharing yours, please contact Amy. Marley Farms Petting Zoo

We are having a playdate on Tuesday, March 16th. We do not have MOPS this day due to Spring Break so come out and enjoy a playdate from 10:00 am to noon. Marley Farms Petting Zoo is located at 26601 S. Val Vista, Gilbert, AZ 85298. Visit their website at www.marleyfarms.com for more information.

They have added a lot to the petting zoo so it should be a lot of fun for the kids. Shay Hillenbrand (a former Diamondbacks player) who owns Marley Farms is so excited that we have a huge group coming. The petting zoo that Shay has built is made up of mostly rescue animals. Easter Egg Hunt!

Your eggs are needed! Ona is planning our Easter Egg Hunt, which will take place on Good Friday, April 2nd at 10:00 am at a park. Please bring one dozen (12) filled eggs per child. Great items to fill the eggs with are hard candy and stickers. Please, NO chocolate. NO soldiers or weapons. Please bring the filled eggs by 9:30 am.

The egg hunt will be at the North Ashland Ranch park. To get there from Sun Valley, turn left out of the parking lot. Go past Lindsay. Turn right at Ashland Ranch. The park will be on your right. There will be no bathrooms, so plan accordingly. We are hoping to have the Easter Bunny there. Bring your baskets to hold the eggs and a camera to catch your adorable kiddos.

Phoenix Zoo Playdate

Come join us at the Phoenix Zoo on Monday, December 21st at 9:00 am for a MOPS Playdate. This is an open event, so invite your friends and neighbors. Admission is only $4.00 for adults and children ages three and over, with a group rate of 15 paid people. Meet us on the bridge at 9:00 am to get in at this special rate.

Lunches can be purchased at the zoo or brought into the zoo. No glass please for the safety of the animals. Dress warmly as it should be cold. Last year we had 55 join us!

Polar Express at Harkins, not at IMAX

We have just been informed by IMAX and Harkins that the Arizona Mills IMAX has been bought by Harkins effective tomorrow. They CANNOT accomodate us in the IMAX theatre Saturday morning, however, they CAN accomodate us in the regular Harkins theatre just across the hall from the IMAX to see the regular Polar Express 2D (not 3D). Tickets can still be purchased at the door. Thank you for understanding the circumstances beyond our control.

Come have a fun, family holiday outing watching Polar Express at the IMAX Theatre at Arizona Mills Mall, located southeast of Highway 60 and I-10 at Baseline and Priest. Join us on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10:00 am, sharp. You can arrive as early as 9:30 am. The cost is $8.00 per ticket and children under three are free if sitting on a lap. Cash or checks written to Sun Valley Community Church are accepted. All funds raised will go toward MOPS childcare.

There will be free cookies and something special for the kids after the movie! Kids (and adults) are also welcome to wear their pajamas! We will have the entire theatre to ourselves, so come and enjoy a morning out with your family, friends, and neighbors!

Restaurant Night at Jason's Deli

September 24th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm is our restaurant night. Please bring your flyer so our MOPS group can receive 20%. Take a night off from cooking and dishes to enjoy dinner with your family. Meet up with your table or other MOPS moms. Jason's Deli is located at 1065 E. Baseline Road, Suite 101 in Gilbert.

First Meeting: September 1st

Our first meeting of the year is September 1st. We will be seeing some familiar faces and meeting many new faces. An exciting time for all of us, as we begin to form new friendships. The food for the first meeting is provided for you so come, relax, and have a great time.

We will be making our name tags. Paint is provided to paint your name tag and write your name. If you would like, you can bring small letter stickers for your name, approximately 1/2 inch or less.

We will also be taking your picture, so look your best!

If you have not turned in your registration, please be sure to bring it with you. All forms are due on Tuesday.

We would like to be the first to welcome you to the Sun Valley Community Church MOPS Blog in Gilbert, AZ!

Our group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month, September through May, from 9-11am and our night group from 6:30-8:30 pm!

Registration will begin for returning MOPS moms in July and for new MOPS moms in August. Please check back for more information and calendars!

MOPS will be having offical registration weekends the last 2 weekends in August before we kick off our MOPS year on September 1! If you are interested in joining, please grab a packet then and get registered! We would love to have you join us! Until then, if you have further questions, please contact Amy, Ona or Angela!

If you took advantage of our pre-registration this year, we will be mailing you our full Registration Packet this summer! Please be sure to read and complete all of the forms so we have current, up-to-date information for you :)

***There are plenty of opportunities to step up and help with both groups! If you have a heart for MOPS please let us know....God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called!

Mentor Mom's Wanted!

If you are a seasoned and experienced mom who is committed to walking alongside our MOPS moms through the newborn through kindergarten years, PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A MOPS MENTOR MOM! Our mentor moms are an essential part in our MOPS groups because we need wisdom and listening ears when we are up to our ears in preschoolers. Mentor moms attend our MOPS meetings (we have an AM and PM group) and are blessed with a table of MOPS moms to mentor and guide and develop relationships with. Please pray about where God may desire for you to be...our Head Mentor Mom, Ele Parrott, is anxious to me with you!

We were able to make several bags that will go to families who have a child in the NICU. Thank you for all of your donations!

Kiernan's Kindess is the local service outreach of Project Sweet Pea, who won the Pepsi Challenge and received $25,000 for the non-profit organization! What a blessing for so many more families who will be reached.

Invite a friend or neighbor and COME...JUST AS YOU ARE! Even if you have spit-up on your shirt, unwashed hair, a baby with a dirty diaper and mismatched socks....as mothers of preschoolers, we have been there!!! Your kids will be taken care of by our fabulous MOPPETS teachers and you can come, relax and have some time for yourself!
